Return of the Gorm (Contra Fan Game)

Overview

Return of the Gorm is an action-packed fan game developed as a personal project, reimagining the spirit of the classic 1987 Contra. Built using Unreal Engine 4.26, this game offers 8 thrilling episodes filled with intense side-scrolling shooter gameplay and challenging boss encounters.

The primary challenge was to adapt the beloved classic Contra gameplay mechanics into the modern Unreal Engine 4 environment. This involved updating the graphics and introducing new mechanics while ensuring the final product remained true to the core spirit and difficulty of the original side-scrolling shooter.

The solution was an 8-episode fan game featuring enhanced visuals powered by UE 4.26, robust performance achieved through C++ implementation, and stunning visual effects created with Niagara. The game includes new, challenging boss mechanics designed to test players’ skills, all while preserving the fast-paced, run-and-gun action that defined Contra.
